Wildlife Problems in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho

My teen daughter claims that while she was walking in our hallway she accidentally \"kicked\" something that was moving, brown and about 6 inches long that looked like a huge mouse or a small rat. It happened so fast, I think it most likely would have been a rat but I’m not sure. We have no idea where it went but we feel uncomfortable in our home now. Would you be able to capture this thing even if we don\'t know exactly where it is?

 

Five days ago I started noticing a few birds flying around my home. Just figured they were getting seasonal bugs. Then I noticed some on my eves below my rain gutters and there were a couple of nests. Now there are 30 to 40 swallows and they are trying to build nests all over the eves of my home. I went outside to see what they were doing and I could not find any after dark but they were back this morning. So now I think they are in my attic and come out in the morning. We are getting ready to sell are house and this is a horrible situation. They swoop down at you and they are creating a big mess everywhere.

 

Have a 30x60 finished pole barn on my property that currently seems to have a family of raccoons that have gotten into the attic somehow. I also have a barn cat that lives in the pole barn, with a cat door so he can come in and out as he needs and the raccoons have been eating his food, tearing up empty beer cans, etc., and just making a mess of things. I feed the cat every afternoon when I get home from work. He\'s not 100% feral, but I am the only one he will let approach him and he seems to be ever watchful while he eats his food. There are a couple of trees that are growing close to the pole barn that I know I have to cut down. I assume that is how they have gotten into the attic though I cannot see a hole to be sure. I was standing in the pole barn the other night around 10:00pm and heard them scampering around in the ceiling. Every attempt to catch them in a live trap has failed. I am at my wits end. I don\'t mind them coming into the pole barn itself from time to time, but having them in the attic is too much.
